As one of the Co-Founders of SC&H Group, Greg has had the pleasure of seeing the firm transform from a back-of-the-napkin idea to its current state — a steady force in the management consulting, audit, and tax world.
Greg is a Director of the SC&H Wealth team, a practice dedicated to helping individuals and families develop and execute the strategic plans to reach their financial or retirement objectives — be it in the arenas of or tax planning and preparation.
With a strong foundation in tax and business consulting services, Greg services SC&H’s most sophisticated and complex high net worth clients. He and his team have dedicated experience in minimizing present and future tax liabilities, but it’s the opportunity that he and the firm have provided to so many quality people here at SC&H and their families, that particularly brings a smile to Greg’s face.
When he’s not in the office, Greg spends the bulk of his time outdoors or traveling, or some combination of the two. He has been on several deep-sea fishing expeditions — including reeling in marlin, tuna and sailfish — but his latest passion in the great outdoors is backpacking and hiking on the Appalachian Trail.
Horning and his Personal Financial Planning team routinely make the best use of changing tax laws to position his clients for fully leveraging income and estate tax savings opportunities under all circumstances, but especially for those events that may suddenly arise. Over the years, he has assisted clients in passing on billions of after-tax dollars to the next generation, assets that otherwise would have gone to taxes. Experienced in combining income tax, investment, and allocation strategies with IRAs, conversions, and donor-advised funds for charitable deductions, Greg creates extremely favorable tax consequences and future tax-favored income streams for his clients.
An avid reader, Greg’s favorite novelist is Ken Follett, author of “The Century Trilogy,” a series of “fictional” historical epics following five interrelated families through the most momentous of historical events, including wars, cultural movements and political events.
He lives in Baltimore County, MD, with his wife. Together, they have two sons, and Greg has two marathons to his name: the Marine Corps Marathon and the NCR Trail Marathon.
Greg is a registered investment advisor and holds his Series 65 securities license as well as life and health insurance licenses in several states. He may credit the following positions, designations and accreditations to his name:

- He has appeared several times on Fox News and Maryland Public Television as an expert source for tax and financial commentary.
Greg holds a B.S. in Accounting from Shippensburg University, where he graduated with highest honors. Greg was the former Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland and is regularly involved with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore, where he volunteers with other SC&H staff in serving meals to residents.
