Expertise Beyond the Numbers

SC&H Group to Host GovCon Summit 2017

SC&H Group’s Pete Ragone joined forces with Recognize DC’s founder Kevin Kelly to bring a new, and much needed government contracting forum – The 2017 GovCon Summit  – to life. The conference, designed to be hosted annually for the government contracting community, will address pressing issues government contractors face, the state of the market, including M&A trends, and the future of the industry.

The inaugural summit has tapped SC&H Group’s leading experts, including Pete Ragone, Director in the Audit and Tax Practice; Matthew Roberson, Principal at SC&H Capital; Angelo Poletis, Principal in Tax Advisory Services; Chris Davidson, Senior Manager in Tax Advisory Services, in addition to many other industry experts.

“The GovCon Summit comes at a really important time for the industry,” said Pete Ragone, Director in the Audit and Tax Practice. “The government year-end is over on September 30th, which means government contractors are also doing their year-end and planning for the upcoming year. With a new administration in the White House, there will be a lot of information on what the various government agencies will be looking for moving forward.”

Dr. Jerry McGinn, Principal Deputy Director at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, will kick off the summit by addressing the current state of the industry. Dr. McGinn will be among several representatives of government agencies in attendance for the event.

Matthew Roberson will address the economic outlook for the industry and discuss the current state of capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. Northrop Grumman’s nearly $8 billion bid to buy Orbital ATK and other recent acquisitions in the industry will be a key talking points.  Matt will also be moderating the M&A panel discussion “Mistakes Made, Lessons Learned from the GovCon M&A Trenches”. This panel  consisting of seasoned corporate, private equity and legal transaction experts will discuss multiple war stories arising from actual M&A transactions as well as thoughts on best practices, current multiples, the state of the GovCon M&A market, and the strategic areas that acquiring companies are looking to expand into in today’s environment.

Angelo Poletis and Chris Davidson will lend their expertise to tax reform and provide a legislative update. With the recent tax proposals coming out of the White House and Senate Democrats looking to strengthen the policies and requirements of the Buy American Act, Poletis and Davidson believe there could be profound repercussions for the government contracting industry if action is taken.

The GovCon Summit will also host additional, well-known industry speakers and panelists, including:

  • Michael Lustbader, Arlington Capital
  • Peter Schulte, CM Equity
  • Joe Fluet, MAG Aerospace
  • Scott Goss, Preferred Systems Solutions
  • Dean Rutley, Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice LLP
  • Eric Crusius, Senior Counsel at Holland & Knight LLP
  • Karen Thornton, Director of Government Procurement Program at George Washington University
  • Lani Kass, Senior Vice President Corporate Strategic Advisor at CACI
  • As well as panelists from 3 government agencies

The Summit will conclude with the RecognizeDC Government Contracting Awards Celebration, hosted by Heather-Louise Finch, Founder and CEO of HLF, LLC and This Addictive Life Channel. The awards program will recognize 40 government contracting companies and their contributions to the market, and the community. Awards will be given to 10 companies in four categories – Impactful Government Contractor, Innovative Government Contractor, Visionary Government Contractor, and Veteran Employer Government Contractor.
