Jim Wilhelm

Jim Wilhelm, Director of SC&H Group’s Tax Services team, has been with the firm for 16 years. During his time with the firm he has led a practice, all the while advising on business and income tax, transactional tax planning, M&A tax due diligence, pass through tax, and international tax.

With years of progressive experience dealing with Federal and State tax issues for businesses and individuals, Jim’s work has brought him in contact with numerous industries, including:

  • Investment Funds
  • Private Equity
  • Real Estate
  • Manufacturing & Distribution
  • Professional Services

Jim has broad, thorough knowledge and expertise across multiple business and individual income tax situations. In addition to guiding clients through mergers and acquisitions, ESOP implementations and tax due diligence engagements, he oversees many value-added tax projects. These include consulting with clients on issues such as succession and estate tax planning, employee benefits, and tactical tax planning. He also assists companies in analyzing their organizational structure to maximize tax benefits and provide better liability protection.

Beginning his career with a regional firm, Jim gained a solid background in taxation and business consulting. His prior experience has proven to be invaluable to his clients as he sees himself as a business advisor who happens to know tax.

Jim serves as a member of the firm’s executive committee and is involved in the SC&H Group Foundation. Jim oversees on campus recruiting efforts for the tax department, as well as the overall recruiting process for his team.

He is a graduate of Towson University, where he earned a B.S. in Accounting, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He has been published in The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Business Journal, The Daily Record, Barron’s, as well as WBAL radio, keeping readers and listeners apprised of current income tax regulations and strategies.

He is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Jim has twice been named SmartCPA in 2007 and 2010 by Smart CEO Magazine.

He is currently on the board of both the Hillendale Country Club and the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. In addition to his board seat he is also an executive committee member for the Maryland Zoo. He has previously served on several boards, including the TowsonGlobal Incubator, the Hunt Valley Business Forum, the Fuel Fund of Maryland, and the Towson Association. Outside of the office Jim can be found on the golf course, or spending time traveling with family and friends.
