James Eaton, a Director on SC&H’s Tax team, has more than 20 years of experience consulting with clients regarding entity structuring, M&A transactions, tax efficiency planning, and estate & trust planning.
Throughout his varied career, James has gained expertise and knowledge in many industries, such as:

- Early-stage Technology & Biosciences
- Real Estate Development & Management
- Business Succession Planning
James works alongside clients’ internal accounting and finance teams as well as outside trusted advisors such as attorneys and investment advisors to develop comprehensive tax efficiency strategies.
James provides services for clients including:
- Planning and managing compliance for partnership and corporate tax returns in fields such as government contracting, consulting & professional services, bio-sciences, and real estate
- Consulting and analysis of flow-through entity structuring and M&A transactions
- High net worth individual and family tax planning and compliance including business, individual, and foreign tax filings
- Consulting with clients’ trusted advisors to develop tax efficient entity structuring, business continuity planning and inter-generational wealth transfer
Known throughout the greater Washington DC / Baltimore Metro area for public speaking on a variety of topics, James has spoken widely regarding Tax Reform, Year-End Tax Planning, the Affordable Care Act, and other topics.
James earned his MBA at Salisbury University and his BBA in Accounting at Temple University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), and a board member of the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA).
James has experience teaching as an adjunct professor at John Hopkins University and Towson University. These experiences helped him develop communications skills that help him thrive in a client-centered environment such as SC&H.
Outside the office, James enjoys adventuring with his family. He loves to ski, hike, and travel and is an avid reader.
