Bill Adams, CPA, CIA

Director

"The expectations that others place on us help us form our expectations of ourselves."

Bill Adams

In his 20 years with the firm, Bill has seen and done almost everything at SC&H, but he now finds himself wearing two hats — he leads both our Contract Compliance Audit Services & Risk Management practices.

As one of the premier providers in the country, his Contract Compliance Audit team analyzes agreements to increase third-party transparency, efficiency, and savings between organizations and their vendors. They provide companies with comprehensive reviews of their operational and internal controls —analyzing contractual arrangements to see how they align with their invoice payments to outside suppliers. Bill has assisted in identifying processing errors that have provided opportunities for cost savings, profit maximization, and cash refunds, in aggregate, in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

One of Bill’s professional passions is to solve complex problems and he finds it deeply engrossing to dig deep for the facts to present enterprises with a strategy for successful outcomes. It’s part of what has helped his practices put training procedures in place to educate their clients on how they can strengthen contract language and controls to further stop financial leakage.

Outside of SC&H, Bill can typically be found on the sideline, in the stands, or in the auditorium, supporting his daughters at whatever event they’re participating in — from soccer to dance recitals — but he also loves to cook and grill; his go-to meal is linguine with clam sauce.

Within the Risk Management practice, Bill’s team works with public and private organizations to provide a tailored, detailed, and practical approach to reducing risk. They assist with everything from internal audit performance and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, to IT audit reviews and third-party risk management.

While he’s not able to play as much as he used to, Bill loves to golf. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where he received a B.S. in Accounting, he has been a huge Nittany Lion fan his whole life, and he was the first person in his family to graduate college.

Among Bill’s clients are some of the most recognized companies in the world. He has managed successful consulting engagements for national and multinational corporations throughout the U.S., Asia, Europe and Australia. Bill’s team has the goal of consistently exceeding clients’ expectations on every project, from engagements with small private companies to recurring engagements related to the yearly audit plans of our Fortune 50 clients.

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of Maryland, and a Certified Internal Auditor. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), and was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 CPAs by SmartCEO magazine. Bill has presented on contract compliance issues, both global and U.S.-based, for the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the Sourcing Industry Group (SIG).

Still active in his community, Bill is a board member, volunteer, and the treasurer of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which recruits and guides volunteer advocates for abused or neglected children in the court system until the children are adopted or otherwise find a permanent home.
