For summer internships, we recruit throughout the year, so check our careers page regularly for updates. Note: Even if you’ve talked with a college recruiter at a networking event or on-site career fair, you will still need to apply online.

Our recruiting team will review all applications and reach out to qualified candidates with the next steps. Please keep in mind that we receive a high volume of applications and do our best to review them in a timely manner.

If you are selected to advance in the process, you will then interview with leaders from your chosen service line. Interviews may be held virtually or in-person depending on the position.

If you’re the right fit for SC&H, we’ll let you know that you’ve been selected for our externship program, summer internship program, or a full-time position! At the end of the internship program, offers may be extended to graduating seniors at the discretion of the service lines based on performance, culture fit, budget, and other variables.

Externship FAQs

Students that are OPT eligible and interested in pursuing our externship program are responsible for partnering with their school’s office of international programs to review eligibility, requirements, and answer any questions.

Join us at our on-campus events! Our externs are students that we met in-person at career fairs, networking events, office hours, etc. We meet so many impressive students at these events that we do not formally post the position on our careers page. Check out our upcoming events for more information on how to connect with a member of our team!

Every January, 20-25 sophomore students attend a 3-day on-site externship to learn about all of the service lines at SC&H. During this educational experience, students will participate in trainings, a volunteer activity, receive an SC&H mentor, and attend a fun social activity with their cohort and leadership members.

Internship FAQs

Students that are OPT eligible and interested in pursuing our externship program are responsible for partnering with their school’s office of international programs to review eligibility, requirements, and answer any questions.

We’re proud to share that 90% of our interns receive offers to return for the following summer. This strong conversion rate continues, as historically 85% of our interns come back to join us as full-time employees after they graduate.

While our internship program is in the summer, we recruit year-round for our service lines. We recommend that students monitor our careers page for new opportunities.

On average, our interns are working about 8 hours per day. We do not offer a full 40-hour work week through our internship program.

Our internship program begins the Monday after Memorial Day. The first week of orientation you will work Monday-Friday and resume with a 4-day work schedule the following week. Students participating in the program are expected to attend the full orientation unless otherwise approved by our Learning & Development team.

Yes, we offer our interns 4 days of PTO. Additional time off must be approved by the service line and Learning & Development team prior to the start of the program.

While we recommend that students participate in the full 10-weeks of the program, we understand that you may return to school earlier for classes or student obligations and are flexible on end date. We prefer students complete at least 8-weeks with us during the summer.

Students pursuing a +1 year are often offered a return internship and full-time opportunity. This gives students an extra year to become more familiar with their service line which makes joining us full-time a smooth transition.

Our interns get to experience life at SC&H while bonding with our full-timers. From an epic Day of Service spent volunteering in the community, engaging baseball outings, and fun-filled happy hours to some friendly competition at our Field Day and hanging with furry friends during Bring Your Dog to Work Day–there’s something for everyone! Plus, your service line might surprise you with its own mini events. You’re guaranteed to have a blast.

No, interns are not eligible for health benefits.

Our campus recruiting team will help interns during interviews to identify their ideal location and service line for the internship. The internship office location is typically determined by the service line’s base location.

Incoming Staff FAQs

Students that are OPT eligible and interested in pursuing a full-time position are responsible for partnering with their school’s office of international programs to review eligibility, requirements, and answer any questions.

Students will provide us with their preferred start date of January, June, or September. While we try to accommodate the preferred timing, start dates are at the discretion of the service line and may be subject to change.

Your office location is determined by the service line’s base location. This information will also be included in your offer letter.

We have a partnership with Becker to provide prep materials, cover the cost of exams once passed, provide additional time off to take the exams, and a congratulatory bonus once officially certified.

Virginia has passed some state legislation regarding pathways to the CPA, you can learn more here. We are currently monitoring Maryland and Chicago for any updates to their requirements.

We understand that making a transition from being a student to a full-time employee can be challenging. Every new hire receives a mentor to help ease the transition. Additionally, we offer customized internal and external sponsored trainings, reimbursement for professional certifications, and tuition reimbursement. We have partnerships with multiple vendors to provide you with free CPE to help maintain your certifications.
