Expertise Beyond the Numbers

Grooming the Next Generation of Business Valuation Leaders

For the past three years, the Valuation Challenge at Seattle Pacific University (SPU) has brought together teams of finance students from across the U.S. to value a real U.S. private company.

Using special appraisal data and information provided by Business Valuation Resources (BVR), the student competitors analyzed why smaller companies exhibited significantly lower multiples of value than their larger public counterparts.  The students performed a valuation where they had the opportunity to calculate these values in a real-world setting.

Nathan DiNatale, a Principal of SC&H Group’s Business Valuation and Litigation Support Services practice, had the unique opportunity of serving as one of the 20 judges for this year’s challenge due to his national valuation expertise.

The challenge also provided Nathan and SC&H Group with the opportunity to interact with the next generation of business valuation leaders, who showed a level of passion and forward thinking that will ultimately shape the future of the industry.

In a recent SC&H Group podcast interview below, Nathan discusses why this competition served as the ideal framework for these students to get real business valuation experience in a highly dynamic forum.
