SC&H Group’s Employee Benefit Audit practice offers the following blog post that provides an update on the deadlines for Form 5500.
On December 3rd, Congress passed the new Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act of 2015, which determines policy and funding levels for transportation infrastructure projects.
President Obama signed FAST into law on December 4th.
FAST is the first law enacted in over ten years that provides long-term funding certainty for surface transportation, so that States can move forward with critical transportation projects, such as new highways and transit lines.
Included in FAST is the repeal of a new Form 5500 filing extension deadline, which means that the current Form 5500 extended due date (Oct. 15 for calendar year plans) will remain in effect without interruption going forward.
This will return Form 5500 deadlines to what they were before the Surface Transportation and Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act was passed by President Obama on July 31, 2015.
It had extended the date to three and one-half months after the filing deadline, or November 15. The new bill repeals this extension, which will continue to be two and one-half months after the initial due date.
Since this sets the deadline to their original terms, it hopefully should help with any confusion caused by the signing of the Surface Transportation and Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act in July.
