It’s with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our dear colleague, Barry Offutt. It’s difficult to express how much we will miss Barry and even harder to describe how much he meant to our firm. As a passionate and esteemed leader, mentor, and friend, Barry dedicated 17 years to SC&H where his wisdom, grit, and compassion helped shape our organization, culture, and professionals. While we could dedicate an entire post speaking to his many contributions and his lasting impact, suffice to say that Barry played a pivotal role in the success and growth of our firm.
Barry Offutt, a Director of SC&H Group’s Audit team has been with the firm for 17 years, providing accounting and assurance advisory services. With former Big 4 experience as well as having served as a CFO for both privately held and public companies, Barry holds public accounting expertise combined with a thorough business understanding. This unique combination makes him a highly valued member of the SC&H leadership team and an expert resource for his clients.
Though his expertise is interchangeable among all services within the audit practice, Barry specifically advises on attestation services and due diligence. He works with a variety of industries and specialization in the following industries:
- Real Estate
- Education technology
In addition to his leadership in the Audit practice, Barry works with SC&H’s Capital practice to provide due diligence assistance to acquiring and divesting companies preparing for transactions. As a business advisor, Barry has developed financial modeling and strategic planning initiatives to help companies advantageously position themselves in the marketplace. As a former CFO, Barry has participated in business and capital structuring, capital raising, acquisitions, planning, and management of team integration.
Outside of Barry’s business advisory role, he is a member of SC&H’s Executive Committee where he oversees corporate operations and business development across the firm’s various practice areas. Additionally, he oversees the intern and college recruiting programs – advising and mentoring the next generation of accountants.
Active in his community, Barry currently serves as a board member of the Nolan Robison Association and has previously served on the board of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club and Kidney Foundation for over 10 years. In his spare time, he can be found on the golf course, spending time with family, or planning their next traveling adventure.
Barry holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Delaware, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Additionally, he is an active member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
